The Great Indian Wedding, for a queer person can sometimes be the great Show Of Unnecessary Heteronormativity. Garish reds meet starch whites in a spectacle of constriction and silhouettes that emphasize escapism- a mix between the sentiment of, "I wish this wasn't the norm, I hate this." and " I wish I could have this- and I cannot, I hate this."
Whilst this is more relevant than ever in our current political scenario, those among us who are queer might know that the back and forth on our civil rights has been going on since more than a year, with refreshing pages that cover bits of said news every couple of weeks or so- it was at this time that I decided to translate my intrusion into art.
Heres presenting a project I created out of a purely raw sentiment, for my MA Fashion CSM application. Those among us also familiar with anxiety know about her good old friend- the gut-wrenching belly ache, and the ever-present out-of-body experience. Taking all of this as my inspiration, I came up with this project.
